Gardens are our pride and joy, and hopefully yours too! We love having a place set apart in our backyards or front yard to cultivate vegetables and display our beautiful flowers. It is our ideal spot to enjoy our hobby of gardening either in solitude or with others and to seek solace in a busy world.

Depending on how you want to set up your garden, you can feature a mix of natural beauty or man-made statues. Grow trees, bushes, vegetables, or flowers and use them to either accompany or highlight fountains, pergolas, trellises, or creeks. They can be for the sole purpose of being decorative or can serve a purpose to create food or herbs.

The key to becoming a better gardener is to learn more about trees and plants by reading more and even discussing topics with other people. You can read more in different newspapers, magazines, or websites, but why choose The Green Pinky? Our articles are written by horticulturists who give practical tips within the publications. We touch upon all sorts of topics.

Caring for Your Garden Plants

There are a couple general principals when it comes to taking care of your plants. You always want to consider a couple factors: appropriate watering frequency, amount of sun, and proper fertilization. Sometimes, you will also need to consider other factors including proper pruning or how to winterize your plants.

For details about proper care for a specific plant, we recommend that you continue to browse our site’s care guides. We’ve split them into three main categories:

Choose Proper Fertilization

After you choose the plants that you will be growing, in addition to giving them the proper sun, you will need to also make sure they have the correct nutrients to allow them to grow optimally. You will want to choose the proper fertilizer. Fertilizers add macronutrients and micronutrients back into the soil. These nutrients are absorbed by the plants’ roots so that they have the necessary tools at the cellular level to grow properly.

Diseases and Pests

Diseases and pests are a nuisance to deal with. Oftentimes, by the time you see the symptoms of a bacterial disease, fungus, or pest, it is already too late to stop its effects. That’s because oftentimes a black spot on your leaf or an fungus gnats in your soil can mean that something much worse is happening deeper in your plants. Recognizing these signs will help you identify it faster and hopefully treat it in time. Furthermore, learning about what can cause damage to your plants will help you prevent them in the first place.

Learn Additional Gardening Topics

To truly develop a green thumb, you will want to learn other techniques that will help further your understanding of gardening. Topics such as mulching, composting, and design ideas are all interesting to read about and will be fun for you to try out.

Tools

Gardening tools can make your job much easier. There are a range of tools for your agricultural and horticultural endeavors. They can be as simple as gloves or shovels, and as complicated as lawn aerators string trimmers, and leaf blowers.
